Races to the White House

What an exciting race it is turning out to be. I don’t particularly like any of the candidates (well, I think Ron Paul is fun, but he’s more like a diversion from the real world of politics than a part of it.), so I’m just enjoying the ups and downs. Two weeks ago, it was Obamamania all over the country. One week ago, it was Hillary finding her voice and winning New Hampshire. Now, we’re back to Obamamania.

Then on the repulican side, we have McCain, Romney, Huckabee and a dying Giuliani. How do I know he’s dying? Because he’s got our assinine governor campaigning for him in Florida. If there is one thing that we know in Texas, it’s that people on death row aren’t going to get any help from Rick Perry. And since he’s unpopular here, why does he think Floridians give a damn what he thinks?

Uggghhhh. McCain is too old and pro-illegal immigrant, Romney is two-faced, Huckabee is a crazy hick and Giuliani has been surrounded by scandal and corruption since, well since forever. I can’t quite bring myself to vote for a Clinton again. I don’t actually hate Hillary, I’m just not excited about seeing the same family return to the White House. And Obama might be OK. His ideas seem flimsy on details and probably depend too much on Washington insiders actually cooperating with him though. He kind of smells like a smoother Jimmy Carter to me. Hope, change, ideas that won’t work, one-term and done. Maybe I’m wrong, but I can easily picture Obama winning and failing to accomplish anything with all of those other elected leaders still in status quo mode.

You know, however, it might just be enough that Obama can give a speech without sounding like an idiot. 8 years of Bushisms is too long.

All things considered, though, my overall thought about this election year is that I am PSYCHED about the new X-Files movie. In the world of the X-Files, government agencies are so competent that they can negotiate deals with aliens and conduct secret experiments on humans. Sure, those agencies are evil and trying to take over the world, but at least you don’t have to worry about the U.S. government screwing everything up out of incompetence. I used to think evil was worse than incompetence. President Bush has changed something …

Long Absence

OK, the new day job has stabilized some and it’s a new year, so I’m going to try and pick back up with the blogging. Probably won’t return to every day writing, but 3 times a week is a good reasonable target to at least keep me in practice.

Politics seem interesting these days with nothing settled after two states. Last time I blogged, I really thought Romney was going to run away with the GOP nomination, so he’s really lost some shine since then. At that time, John McCain was dead man walking with Iraq and immigration hung around his neck like a noose. Good results from the surge and backpedaling from his former “comprehensive” immigration plan to an enforcement first approach seems to have brought quite a bit of life back to him.

Fun times indeed …
